Seven Hundred and Twenty Days

This artwork is a symbolic collection and archive of memories.  It memorialises the seamless progression of days, the spread of time, and what is so easily forgotten.  One by one, specially selected seedpods are cast in aluminium, each representing the surviving memory of a day. By collaborating with the jeweller Willie Jo Keller, these seedpods become like cherished personal adornments.

The seedpod is then displayed, not as it grows in nature, but as a result of Burchell’s subconscious and meditative threading of the delicate seed pods into a portrait canvas
